ALOHA!

Dog days of summer anyone? They are upon us!  As I get older and it becomes more difficult for my body to adjust to the heat, it allows me to find new ways of adapting. Maybe I need to slow down. Maybe I need a change of pace or scenery or climate. Whatever the case may be, its during this time that I pay particularly close attention to the needs of my body, mind and spirit, so I dont overdo it, which I have a natural tendency toward.

Now how does this apply to the business world? How does it apply to the customer service industry?  Well, if our employees are hot, uncomfortable and irritable, we need to find ways to help them get in tune with themselves so they can better serve our customers. Because you better believe the grouchy customer factor rises with the mercury on the thermometer this time of year. If your employee has missed the bus, their car has broken down or their day just didnt start out right and theyve sweat through their uniform or their work clothes by the time they get to work, theyre not going to feel much like exceeding your customers expectations.  Would you?  Lets keep that in mind during this month of hot weather and put ourselves in their shoes and in our grouchy customer shoes, and see what we can do to make their day a little more comfortable. The skys the limit on this one.  Its only limited by your imagination.  Remember, we want to treat our employees (and each other) the way we want our customers treated.  Are you willing to risk losing even one customer over uncomfortability?  Not wise. A nationwide chain just lost me this week over that precise situation. And it was their second chance to get it right!
