Throughout the 20 years in the service and hospitality industry on Maui, I had the privilege of learning what The Spirit of Aloha truly means. That is one of the reasons why I chose to call my company Aloha Solutions and why we still operate under that name even though we are now based in the Mainland United States.
Anyone who has been fortunate enough to visit the magical islands of Hawaii have most certainly had a taste of something special that may seem quite undefinable and unique as though it only exists in that beautiful environment. Perhaps that is because the Hawaiian people have brought to our world the concept of The Aloha Spirit.
The word Aloha, in the Hawaiian language, means many things. Depending on its usage and the word preceding or following it, Aloha can mean hello, goodbye, love, mercy, affection or compassion. It is most commonly used as a greeting. The word itself is derived from two Hawaiian words - alo which means presence, front, face, or share, and the word ha which means breath of life, or the essence of life. So taken in its most literal sense, the word Aloha can mean presence of the breath of life, or sharing the essence of life.
The Aloha Spirit, while a little more difficult to define because of the subjective nature of the phrase, can most often be described as a type of hospitality that involves a deep sense of caring and love for another, respect for the visitor or guest, regardless of their heritage or culture and a true desire to help, even if it is a complete stranger.
I honed various skills in this environment of the Aloha Spirit and have tried to convey this special way of providing hospitality in Aloha Solutions. We will always strive to bring this treasured quality to our clients, our shoppers, our community and our lives.
